The Memorial Day Ceremony at Seawolf Park has become a Galveston tradition, where veterans and citizens come together to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the United States. The ceremony will include: Speakers from various military branches, Tolling of the Bell in remembrance of submarines and crews lost at war,Laying of the Wreath ritual in Galveston Harbor. May 28-30, 2011 6-9:00PM – Memorial to Military and Civilian Losses in Iraq and Afghanistan Wars
A memorial to all lives lost in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is on display May 28, 29, and 30th. The memorial consists of a labeled US and Texas flag for each of the almost 600 Texans killed in both conflicts and prayer flags and photos to denote the many tens of thousands of Afghan and Iraqi civilian losses. Event is sponsored by the Houston chapters of Veterans for Peace and CodePink. Volunteers are needed to plant flags at 9 AM on the 28th and retrieve flags at 7 PM on the 30th.

This electrifying and soulful revue features many of Houston’s most talented vocalists and dancers, accompanied by the 23-piece BACEMENT Orchestra. Dancin’ in the Streets: Motown & More Revue features soul music from its inception in the 1950s to present day. The BACE Company recreates the music of legendary soul music greats as recorded by Motown, STAX, Atlantic, Philadelphia International, Duke and Peacock, and other labels. This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30am-1pm. If tickets remain at 1pm, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill.
