A two-day Native American Pow Wow with colorful tribal dance contests, an arts & crafts show, tipis, visiting with old friends, making new ones, honoring ceremonies, singing and much more will be part of the 22nd Annual Texas Championship Pow Wow. Several hundred Native Americans, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States, will take part in this celebration of their culture and heritage. The drums will beat for the dancers in full regalia of feathers, buckskin, bells and beadwork competing for prize money and awards in eighteen different dance categories. Special morning entertainment, featuring Terry Tsotigh playing his flute and harmonica, will start at 11:30AM each day with Grand Entry at 12:00 noon. All dance competition will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Artists, craftsmen and traders from all over the country will showcase their wares and talents at the arts & crafts show and sale under the giant Expo. Art Car: The Movie” follows a handful of local artists as they prepare their entries for the 2010 parade with an inside look at how the City of Houston and the Orange Show prepared for the event. Houston-based co-directors Carlton Ahrens and Ford Gunter traveled across the U.S. and the world talking with artists, critics and academics to figure out where art cars fit in the art world and define the car’s place in American culture and as a reflection of self. The film also chronicles the automobiles place in American culture and the rise of the Art Car Movement in Houston during the 1980s.

*This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30am-1pm. If tickets remain at 1pm, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill.

Austin’s Bee vs. Moth performs their original score to this 1928 classic Buster Keaton film on the Anheuser-Busch Stage. Here the great stone-face plays a young man who tries to impress a girl by becoming a newsreel cameraman. Of course, nothing goes right. He forgets to load the camera or he does it wrong or he’s in the wrong place at the wrong time. In short, everything gets screwed up, and nobody screws everything up more entertainingly than the great Keaton. Brass-laden Bee Vs. Moth’s “multiple-genre, weirdo instrumental is just right for this anarchic laugh riot.
